CE 315 Determinate Structures Spring Semester 1994

1993-94 Catalog Data: CE 315. Determinate Structures. Credit 3 (2+3P). Analytical and graphical analysis of determinate structures. Prerequisite: grade C or better in CE 233. Co-requisite: CE 301.

Textbook: McCormac and Elling, Structural Analysis, Harper and Row Publishers, 1988.

Reference: Students are encouraged to seek other structural analysis books in the library. Codes, specifications, blueprints & plans, handbooks, and other reference material are utilized as needed.

Coordinator: Rola Idriss, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering.

Goals:To apply mathematical and engineering principles to the development and mastery of solutions for determinate structures. To establish an identification and explanation of code specifications as they are used to develop determinate structure loading and to relate determinate structures to practical structural problems encountered in the field. To develop professional standards of presentation. To preview indeterminate structures through approximate analysis concepts. To introduce allowable stress design of structural steel

Prerequisite by Topic:

Topics:

Computer usage: Students are introduced to existing software, MERJ, for use in analyzing and designing structures. The emphasis is on interpreting and presenting results.

Laboratory Projects: Included in the following laboratory sessions are slide presentations, blueprint and plan reading, code explanations, and book & paper reference review to relate concepts to the real world.

ABET category content: Engineering Science: 2.5 credits or 83.3% Engineering Design: 0.5 credits or 16.7%
