Students were taken to the Leasburg
Diversion Dam, located about 20 miles north of Las Cruces, NM.
Here, Henry Magallenez, from EBID, showed how a head of water can be raised so that it can be
utilized in irrigation canals. They saw several water regulating
structures, including the control gates at the diversion dam (shown to
the right) as well as the first set of waste-way gates. Students also
were exposed to flow measurement structures, and learned some of the techniques used in measuring the flows
in canals.
